Holiday Shipping Deadlines 2026: Last Order Dates + Notices
USPS, UPS, FedEx and Royal Mail cutoffs for Christmas 2026, a simple way to set your own last order date, and notices you can copy for your shop.

Key takeaways
- •For Christmas 2026 in the US, USPS recommends sending Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail by 17 December, Priority Mail by 18 December and Priority Mail Express by 19 December.
- •UPS and FedEx Ground have no single date. Check the transit time for your route, then count back from 24 December.
- •Your last order date is the carrier date minus the days you need to make and pack, minus one spare day.
- •Post the same last order date on your website banner, product pages, order emails and DM replies, and start before Black Friday.
- •After the cutoff, keep selling with local pickup, local delivery and e-gift cards.
The short answer: for Christmas 2026, the main US cutoffs are 17 December for USPS Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail, 18 December for Priority Mail and 19 December for Priority Mail Express. UPS and FedEx Ground depend on your route. In the UK, Royal Mail 2nd Class is 18 December and 1st Class is 21 December. Do not publish those dates as your own. Your last order date is the carrier date minus the days you need to make and pack, minus one spare day. Then post that one date everywhere customers look.
This is for gift shops, boutiques, makers, bookshops, bakeries and chocolatiers that ship, and anyone selling gift cards or vouchers this season.

Three details matter for small shops:
- Ground has no single date at UPS or FedEx. UPS says to check the transit time for your route, and warns that from 16 November 2026 to 8 January 2027 a limited number of Ground packages will need extra time. FedEx Ground and Home Delivery run from 17 December for 5-day routes to 23 December for 1-day routes.
- Christmas Eve is not a normal pickup day. UPS has no Ground pickup on 24 December. FedEx has modified service that day.
- Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico take longer. USPS gives Ground Advantage to and from these places a 10-day or more service expectation, so check the ZIP to ZIP estimate.
Work out your own last order date
Use this formula:
Last order date = carrier send-by date, minus your make and pack days, minus one spare day.
Example (illustrative): a candle maker ships with USPS Ground Advantage, so the carrier date is Thursday 17 December. She needs two working days to pour, pack and label (Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16), and keeps Monday 14 as a spare day for a sick day or a supply delay. Her last order date is Sunday 13 December.
Do this once for each way you ship. If you offer an upgrade, it gets a later date:
- Standard shipping: last orders Sunday 13 December
- Priority shipping: last orders Tuesday 15 December
- Local pickup: last orders Tuesday 22 December
Handmade, personalised or made-to-order items need their own, earlier date. Say so on the product page.

If an order will be late
Late orders happen: a supplier slips, a label prints wrong, a parcel sits in a depot. What you say next matters.
In the US, the FTC's Mail, Internet or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule (16 CFR part 435) applies to orders by mail, phone and online. You need a reasonable basis for any shipping time you state, or for shipping within 30 days if you state none. If you cannot ship on time, you must tell the customer, give a revised date or explain why you cannot, and offer to cancel with a prompt full refund. For a first delay of 30 days or less, a customer who does not reply can be treated as agreeing to the delay.
In the UK, GOV.UK says distance sellers must explain delivery arrangements, costs and how long goods take before the order, and deliver within 30 days unless agreed otherwise. This is general information, not legal advice.
Delay email template
Hi [Name], I am sorry: your order [number] will not ship on [original date]. The new ship date is [date], which may mean it arrives after Christmas. If you would rather not wait, reply "cancel" and we will refund you in full straight away. If you are happy to wait, you do not need to do anything.
Pair this with a clear return policy, so a gift that arrives late or is the wrong size has an easy next step.
After the cutoff: keep selling
The last shipping date is not the last sales date. After it, switch the message:
- Local pickup. Set a pickup cutoff and hours, and post them with your holiday hours on Google.
- Local delivery. If you deliver yourself, give a postcode or ZIP list and a final day.
- E-gift cards and vouchers. They arrive by email and suit salons, spas, gyms, studios and clinics as much as shops.
- "It is on its way" cards. A printable card the buyer can wrap, for items that will ship in January.
Use plain words customers search for, such as "order by" and "arrives before Christmas", not "dispatch window". Our guide to customer language has more swaps.
Where GBot fits
GBot reads your website or Instagram during setup, including your products, prices and tone. Give it your last order dates and Mia can draft the banner, product page line, order email wording and last-call posts, Leo can make a matching "order by" graphic, and Nora drafts replies to "will it arrive in time?" messages for you to approve. GBot does not connect to carriers, track parcels or edit your website. You set the dates; it helps you say them clearly everywhere.

Frequently asked questions
What are the USPS holiday shipping deadlines for 2026?
For expected delivery before 25 December within the Lower 48 states, USPS recommends sending USPS Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail by Thursday 17 December, Priority Mail by Friday 18 December and Priority Mail Express by Saturday 19 December. For most international destinations, the dates are 9 December for First-Class Package International and Priority Mail International, and 16 December for Priority Mail Express International.
When is the last day to ship UPS or FedEx for Christmas 2026?
For delivery by Thursday 24 December, UPS lists 21 December for 3 Day Select, 22 December for 2nd Day Air and 23 December for Next Day Air. FedEx lists 21 December for Express Saver, 22 December for 2Day and 23 December for overnight services. UPS Ground and FedEx Ground depend on your route, so check the transit time for your ZIP codes. FedEx Ground ranges from 17 December for 5-day routes to 23 December for 1-day routes.
How do I work out my last order date for Christmas delivery?
Start with the carrier's recommended send-by date for the service you use. Subtract the working days you need to make, pack and label an order. Then subtract one more day as a buffer. Publish that date, not the carrier's date, and use the same date everywhere.
What are the Royal Mail last posting dates for Christmas 2026?
The Post Office lists Friday 18 December for Royal Mail 2nd Class, Saturday 19 December for Tracked 48, Monday 21 December for 1st Class and Tracked 24, and Wednesday 23 December for Special Delivery. Post earlier for international parcels and remote postcodes.
What do I have to do if an online order will ship late?
In the US, the FTC's Mail, Internet or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule says you need a reasonable basis for any shipping time you state, or 30 days if you state none. If you cannot ship on time, you must tell the customer, give a revised date or say you do not know, and offer to cancel with a prompt full refund. In the UK, GOV.UK says goods should be delivered within 30 days unless you agreed otherwise. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can GBot track my shipments or update my website banner?
No. GBot does not connect to carriers, track parcels or edit your website. It can draft your last order notice, the banner and email wording, a graphic for social posts and replies to 'will it arrive in time?' messages in your voice, and you approve and publish them yourself.
