Instagram post ideas for small businesses: 50 ideas and a weekly plan

50 Instagram post ideas for cafés, salons and shops, grouped by type, plus a simple Mon–Sun plan you can repeat every week without guessing what to post.

GBot Notes

Fifty Instagram ideas will not help if you still open the app and freeze. What helps is a short weekly plan you can fill in under an hour, with ideas that fit a café, a salon or a shop.

Below: 50 ideas by type, a Mon–Sun plan, and a one-hour batching routine.

The weekly mix (so the grid is not random)

Aim for roughly this balance each week:

Type What it does Rough share
Proof Reviews, before/after, sold-out moments 2 posts
Process How it is made, a day in the shop 1–2 posts
Product / menu What to buy or book this week 1–2 posts
People Team, regulars (with permission), owner note 1 post
Offer or reminder Hours, booking link, seasonal item 1 post

You do not need seven different formats. You need seven finished posts.

50 Instagram post ideas

For any small business (1–20)

  1. This week's bestseller — photo + one sentence why people keep ordering it.
  2. A customer question you answered three times — turn the answer into a carousel.
  3. "Three things that are true this week" — hours, a sold-out item, a new arrival.
  4. A Google review screenshot (with permission / public review) + your thank-you reply.
  5. Before the doors open — empty chairs, lights on, one quiet detail.
  6. After close — the reset, the prep for tomorrow.
  7. Meet the person who makes X — first name, one fun fact, one favourite item.
  8. A myth vs fact about your craft (sourdough, colour, alterations).
  9. How long X really takes — honest timeline.
  10. What $20 / €20 gets you here — three options at one price point.
  11. A packing or wrapping close-up — satisfying and easy to film.
  12. "Save this for later" checklist — what to order, bring or book.
  13. A day-in-the-life Reel — 15–20 seconds, no talking needed.
  14. New vs regular — what first-timers order vs what regulars order.
  15. "We almost didn't make this" — a near-miss story with a happy ending.
  16. Shelf or fridge restock — ASMR-ish, simple.
  17. Your origin in five slides — why you opened, one lesson, one thank-you.
  18. Local love — a neighbouring business you send people to (tag them).
  19. Seasonal switch — what left the menu or shelf, what replaced it.
  20. Hours and how to book / order — the unglamorous post that saves DMs.

For cafés and bakeries (21–35)

  1. The pour — latte art or a clean espresso shot in natural light.
  2. Dough timeline — mix → proof → bake in three frames.
  3. Name the pastry — ask followers to name a new item; pick a winner in-story.
  4. Pairing post — drink + pastry that go together, with prices.
  5. Allergy-friendly option of the week — clear and kind.
  6. "Ask for this" — an off-menu tweak you are happy to make.
  7. Morning rush vs afternoon calm — two photos, same counter.
  8. Supplier spotlight — beans, milk, flour; name the farm or roaster if true.
  9. Cup with a view — your window seat as the product.
  10. Sold out stamp — celebrate a sell-out; say when it is back.
  11. Recipe scrap you can share — one tip, not the whole formula.
  12. Loyalty punch card reminder — how many punches to a free drink.
  13. Catering or office order mini-menu — three packages, one CTA to DM.
  14. Seasonal drink construction — layers or toppers people will screenshot.
  15. "Open late / closed early this week" — story + feed reminder.

For salons, barbers and studios (36–45)

  1. Before / after — same lighting, same angle, client permission first.
  2. Consultation tip — what to bring to your first visit (photos, budget, lifestyle).
  3. Chair story — a regular's usual, with first name only if they agree.
  4. Product you actually use — one bottle, why you chose it.
  5. How to book / cancel — calm policy reminder, not a lecture.
  6. Colour correction myth — what Instagram filters hide.
  7. Maintenance timeline — when to come back for a trim or refresh.
  8. Team skill spotlight — who loves fades, colour, brows.
  9. Gift voucher flat-lay — ready for the holidays.
  10. "Slots left this week" — honest scarcity, updated when filled.

For shops and makers (46–50)

  1. Unboxing your own delivery — new stock arriving.
  2. Gift guide under a set amount — five items, one price cap.
  3. How it is made — three steps on a workbench.
  4. Styling the same item three ways.
  5. "What sells out every Friday" — train people when to come.

A simple Mon–Sun plan

Copy this into a note and fill the blanks each Sunday night.

Day Slot Idea to use
Mon Proof Idea 4 or 36 — a review or before/after
Tue Process Idea 5, 22 or 48 — how the work looks
Wed Product Idea 1, 24 or 47 — what to buy this week
Thu People Idea 7 or 43 — team or maker
Fri Offer / reminder Idea 20, 35 or 45 — hours, late night, slots left
Sat Personality Idea 13 or 27 — a short Reel of the day
Sun Rest or Stories only Polls, "what should we make next?", behind-the-scenes

If seven posts is too many, drop Tue and Sun. Keep Mon, Wed, Fri as the spine.

One-hour Sunday batch (do this once)

  1. 10 min — pick seven. Circle ideas from the list. Match them to real things happening this week (a delivery, a booking gap, a seasonal item).
  2. 30 min — shoot or gather. Phone photos in natural light. Screenshots of public reviews. One 15-second Reel if you have the energy.
  3. 20 min — draft captions. One sentence hook, two facts, one soft next step ("Ask us at the till" / "Link in bio to book"). (Mia can draft a week of captions in your voice; Leo can make the images. Nothing posts until you approve — that is the point.)

Schedule them, or save the drafts in your camera roll with the caption in the note. Shipping beats perfection.

Caption formula that stays human

[Hook in one line.] [One true detail.] [One true detail.] [Soft next step.]

Example:

This week's bestseller is the orange cardamom bun. We only bake thirty. They are usually gone by 11. If you want one Saturday, come early — or message us for Sunday's bake list.

What not to worry about

  • Hashtag piles. A few specific ones beat thirty generic ones.
  • Posting at the "perfect" minute. Consistency beats clock-watching.
  • Every post being a Reel. A clear photo still works.
  • Sounding like a brand deck. Sound like you at the till.
